The 2023 General Revaluation has resulted in an increased rates liability for many commercial properties across Northern Ireland, and we are now only 40 days away from the new Valuation List coming into effect on 1 April.
Any challenge on the rateable value of a property in the current 2020 list must be lodged with Land and Property Services (LPS) by 31 March, otherwise there will be no further opportunity to secure refunds back to 1 April 2020.
In preparation for the new Valuation List going live, ratepayers currently have the opportunity to review the proposed NAV for their property and contact LPS if they feel this is inaccurate. It should be noted that the draft list was a desk-based exercise focused exclusively on rents and is therefore unchecked or challenged by anyone outside of LPS at this stage.
